Spring Summer /20

This textile collection is a reflection on my experiences with different religions—Buddhism and Christianity—across different periods, from childhood to the present.

The five repeat patterns are a timeline of my experience in religions; from accustomed Buddhism practice in the early years to the introduction of Christianity in my teenage chapter; to the conflicts and disagreements caused by my change of belief; gradually to freedom of choice in selecting a faith; and to my present stance in perceiving religion. Motifs such as lotus and olive will be utilised to create repeat patterns in this collection, derive from symbolic representation of Buddhism and Christianity. The first three designs will consist of childlike elements as the narrative behind the designs took place in the early years of my life. In the latter designs, buddha’s hand and eye will be introduced so to reflect the stage of realisation. Lotus and olives will be combined together to form new plants, which implies my current viewpoint of religion and belief.
